When Albert Margai left office in 1967, after three years as prime minister, he was worth an estimated US$250m – despite receiving an annual salary of just US$4,000. In 1985, when President Siaka Stevens stood down, he is said to have amassed a fortune of US$500m. The Bank of Sierra Leone, in contrast, held US$196,000 in its foreign reserve accounts. He noted that, a member of the House, Mr. Christopher Chope, asked, “Does my hon. Friend accept that it cannot be that difficult to get hard data on the extent of corruption when Franklin Cudjoe, the Ghanaian director of the Imani think tank, has asserted that $4,700 is stolen by African Governments from their people every second?”—–Hansard of the UK House of Commons, June 16, 2006.

“The Acting Special Prosecutor must earn her stripes. She must be firmer, critical and thoughtful. Fighting grand corruption requires tact- her first grand plan, must be to unlock the millions allocated to the Office, request the Public Services Commission and the Procurement Authourity to hire private investigators. These private investigators must be well renumerated to prevent being compromised. She must give Ghanaians a comprehensive and honest report on the unfinished investigations by her predecessor on March 30, 2021”- Franklin Cudjoe, on behalf of IMANI.

In another note, he said, the Auditor-General has completed his accumulated leave. – He should resume office and pick up his work on the controversial $1m Kroll payments. He should ignore everything his appointed acting officer did in respect of Kroll. Those actions were merely cantata. Next, he must audit the EC’s assets, all assets purchased between 2013 and 2020. IMANI formally petitioned the Auditor- General to do so a few weeks before he was asked to proceed on leave. The Speaker of Parliament must cause for same audit of the EC”- Franklin Cudjoe, on behalf of IMANI.
